NEW PROJECTS WITHIN THE IPA CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION PROGRAMME BETWEEN HUNGARY AND SERBIA.

The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Petrovaradin has participated as a partner in the realization of 2 phase of the conservation of medieval monasteries Arača & Dombo in Rakovac and applied, together with other partners; the Museum of Vojvodina, the Tourist Organization of Vojvodina and the Museum Administration of Bács-Kiskun county from Hungary, to the third call for IPA cross-border cooperation between Serbia and Hungary, which was announced in 2012.
The joint project, called Edict, was accepted by the National Agency for Development , Budapest. The total budget allocated for the entire project is 300,000 euros.
The planned program of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments for continued conservation work includes:
- Reconstruction and presentation of the remains of the walls of the Gothic churches in the Dombo monastery, and presentation of partial remains from the Roman period,
- Beginning of conservation of the architectural structure of the Arača basilica -cleaning, conservation, restoration and protection of stone columns inside the basilica, two of which are original and four reconstructed in 1975.
The budget of The Provincial Institute  for the implementation of the two conservation projects is 60,000 euros. The following personnel are engaged on the project; the director, as project manager, an architect as lead designer, an architectural technician to record results and new discoveries in the works, and one accounting clerk.
The district of Novi Bečej is engaged in this project to provide conditions for work in Arača, which is located just outside the town.
Through the realization of work on the reconstruction and presentation of the remains of the Romanesque and Gothic churches in the Dombo Monastery a tourist attraction will be created. At the Arača Basilica, work on the restoration of parts of the basilica, and the cleaning, restoration and protection of the monumental central pillars inside the church, would significantly improve the condition of the stone of structure and raised the ambient and architectural value of the building and allow tourists and the faithful to become more aware of the beauty and size of this monument and site.
Implementation of the project started on 01.03.2013. and will last 15 months.
